High-performance regatta rope with superfibre core at top price-quality ratio
S Cup is a high quality rope with a well balanced construction for racing and ambitious cruising on sailing boats. This racing rope has a double braid construction with HMPE-superfibres Stirotex in the core, covered by a HT-Polyester braid. S Cup is available with many colours in a modern mottled or solid design and offers many splicing options to make a perfectly matching line for your boat from this rope.
You can order S Cup from ø3mm to ø16mm in many colours directly here. At Premiumropes we have large stock and can quickly splice it to your configuration and ship quickly to you or directly into the marina.
Our S Cup is popular in sailboat racing and for cruisers both on small trips and long voyages.
This top level racing rope has been designed by Premiumropes for demanding sailors, which are looking for lines that take up the challenges on board. Whether club-regatta, weekend-trip, blue-water-cruising or offshore-racing - S Cup is the matching rope for your sailing activities for many seasons.
S Cup uses superfibres in its core for minimal elongation and is used as halyard for your mainsail, genoa or other sails. It will keep the halyard tension over time and your sails will be performing better with an optimum leech tension.
Additionally the weight in the rig can be reduced due to use of HMPE-superfibres in the rope with the following options
- Tapering S Cup - stripping the cover on the first part of the rope makes it much lighter without any performance or strength issues. The core is UV-resistant.
- Weight advantage of superfibre - the density of Stirotex fibres (HMPE) is less then that of Polyester making it a less heavy rope
- Stronger than steel - S Cup uses the HMPE Superfibre Stirotex in its core, which is many times stronger than yachting ropes from Polyester. It is possible to use a smaller rope diameter and still keep the requirements for the breakload. That way S Cup reduces the weight in your rig.
Stirotex core, super fibre, for ambitious sailors, racing, extremely low stretch
What are the features of S Cup?
- Extremely low stretch - even at high loads the S-Cup ropes does not elongate much and holds the length constant
- Powerful core braided from Stirotex fibres - Stirotex is an HMPE-superfibre which is stronger than steel at equal diameters.
- Smooth and easy handling - a well balanced construction and high quality fibres make S Cup a rope that is running lightly through the blocks without too much friction.
- Various splicing options - S Cup can be easily spliced either by yourself or we splice it exactly to your reuirements.
- Top UV resistance - both the HT-Polyester fibres of the cover and the Stirotex fibres of the core are resistant to UV radiation.
- Best value for money - S-Cup has core of HMPE superfibres at attractive prices
For which lines on my sailboat can I use S-Cup ropes?
The S-Cup rope is a highly versatile option designed for use across a wide range of sailboat lines, from dinghies to yachts. Its strength, flexibility, and durability make it ideal for critical applications such as sheets, halyards, and trim lines.
Sheets
The S-Cup rope excels as a reliable and easy-to-handle sheet for various sails:
- Jibsheets: Perfect for both overlapping genoas and smaller headsails, providing a firm grip and low stretch for precise sail control.
- Mainsheets: Its balance of flexibility and strength makes it ideal for managing the mainsail during tacking or gybing.
- Spinnaker Sheets: Lightweight and durable, it allows easy handling and quick adjustments during downwind sailing.
Halyards
Thanks to its minimal stretch and high breaking load, the S-Cup rope is a fantastic choice for raising and securing sails:
- Jib Halyard: Keeps your jib or genoa securely hoisted with reliable tension.
- Spinnaker Halyard: Ensures your spinnaker deploys smoothly and stays stable during demanding maneuvers.
- Main Halyard: Strong and dependable, providing consistent sail shape under high loads.
Trim Lines
The S-Cup rope is well-suited for control and trim lines, offering excellent durability and flexibility:
- Traveler Line: Allows precise control of your traveler car for optimal sail shape adjustment.
- Outhaul Line: Handles the load of flattening or powering up your mainsail efficiently.
- Cunningham: Strong enough for precise luff tensioning to improve upwind performance.
- Reeving lines: Ensures a reliable and secure reef in your mainsail.
Why Choose S-Cup?
Whether for sheets, halyards, or trim lines, the S-Cup rope provides:
- Durability: Designed for repeated use in demanding conditions.
- Ease of handling: Soft yet grippy for confident control.
- Minimal stretch: Ensures consistent performance under load.
From fine-tuning trim to managing powerful sails, the S-Cup rope is a reliable choice for every sailor, ensuring performance and confidence on the water.
What is Stirotex?
Stirotex is the name of the superfibres, out of which the core of S-Cup is braided. This superfibres are made of HMPE, high-modulus-poly-ethylen, which have superb technical properties. Stirotex, like Dyneema, is a brand name for HMPE fibres.
With Stirotex having the same strength, weight and UV-resistance as other HMPE fibres, the Stirotex core in S-CUP is a very price attractive alternativ.
How to make an eye-splice into S-Cup ropes?
The steps to make a proper eye-splice into ropes with superfibre core is explained in this video. As the Stirotex core is UV resistant, it is most easy to splice the core and leave out the cover.
It is also explained in the book Splicing Modern Ropes or in the Rope Splicing App.
Three tips from expert riggers, how to make best use of S-Cup on a sailing yacht
The S-Cup rope has an extremely low elongation even on high loads. You can use it perfectly for halyards on racing boats and here are three ideas how to make a perfect racing boat halyard from S-Cup ropes:
- The Stirotex Core of S-Cup is UV resistant and takes most of the load on the line. If you remove the cover on the halyard on the part which is in the mast, it will have less weight and easier to handle. Keep the cover on the part which holds in the clutches or on the winches, though.
- Make a proper eye-splice with a shackle at the sail end of the halyard. With S-Cup ropes this can be easily done as shown above. An eye-splice is stronger than knots because it does not bend the fibres as much.
- In order to increase holding power in clutches, it is advisable to increase the diameter of the rope by splicing an additional core into the S-Cup at the position of the jammer or clutch. Please see our video here, how to do this. Video: Splicing in an extra core
