A Rodkicker with a gas spring replacesthe topping lift, making reefing fast and simple. It happens that over time the gas spring loses its strength and can’t hold the weight of the boom and sail anymore. In that case, it is time to replace the gas spring. Replacing it is not difficult and it’s something you can do yourself. Gas springs can be ordered separately or in a set with additional parts. Usually it is recommended to replace all parts in the set.
Which gas spring for my Seldén Rodkicker do I need?
Gas springs are available in a range of strengths, to cover variations in boom weight (including the stowed sail) and the Rodkicker angle. The angle varies with gooseneck height and kicker length.Do you have an old gas spring that needs replacing? Then take a look at the part number, this will easily tell you which type of gas spring you need. If you do not know which spring you need then the following rule of thumb applies:
Masthead rigs or yachts with furling masts use a normal spring
Fractional rigs use the hard spring
The super strong version can be used for racing yachts
